People with disabilities live, work, socialize, and play in the community of their choice along with friends, family and peers.
To be a self-advocacy and support group for people with disabilities who will learn how to speak for themselves and teach others about their rights and responsibilities as individuals with disabilities.
To unite and strengthen the disability community in Iowa and build equal partnerships with communities at large through:
Working with people who make decisions about disability issues for our communities, for the State of Iowa and for the Nation
Telling Iowans about People First through the newspaper, newsletters, programs, radio, and television
Sponsoring social events
Attending local, state, and national meetings
Raising money to pay for People First events and expenses
Developing strong and helpful relationships between the Disability Community and local communities
People with disabilities make the decisions.
Family members, friends, and advocates who support People First of Iowa are encouraged to become non-voting members.
All people with disabilities should live, learn, work, and socialize in communities of their choice.
People with disabilities should make their own choices concerning all aspects of their own lives.
